Methodology

How we score AI tools

A transparent, repeatable process so you can trust the ranking — and challenge it when we get something wrong.

The 5-factor rubric

Every ScoreRoute rating is a weighted average of five factors, each scored from 1 to 5.

FactorWeightWhat we look at
Ease of use20%Onboarding time, UI clarity, and how quickly a first-time user reaches value.
Features25%Depth and breadth of capability relative to the tool's stated category.
Value20%Price-to-outcome ratio benchmarked against category peers.
Support15%Response time, documentation quality, and community activity.
Performance20%Speed, reliability, and output quality across our standardized tasks.

Our principles

Hands-on testing

Every tool receives 30+ hours of real-workflow testing before we publish a score.

Standardized tasks

Tools in the same category are evaluated against the same set of tasks and prompts.

Editorial independence

Scoring is separate from any commercial relationship. Vendors cannot pay for a higher rating.

Affiliate disclosure

Some outbound links are affiliate links. They never influence our score or ranking.

Regular re-scoring

Each review is revisited at least every 6 months, or sooner when a tool ships a major release.

Reader signal

We monitor reader feedback and update reviews when a claim no longer matches reality.

Verified badge

A "Verified" badge means our editorial team completed the full 30+ hour test cycle and re-tested at least one time within the last 6 months. Tools without the badge are listed based on public information and may not yet carry a full score.

Report an inaccuracy

If you spot a claim that no longer matches a tool's current behavior, emaileditorial@scoreroute.app. We aim to review corrections within 5 business days.
